THE OXFORD SIX INITIATIVE

MISSION STATEMENT

At “I am the one you hate”, our mission is to dismantle the barriers of discrimination by showcasing the shared humanity in all of us. Drawing from our diverse experiences of discrimination, we unite to declare that no individual should be judged, discriminated against, or denied access to opportunities based on ability, faith, race, culture, language, heritage, sex, gender, sexual orientation or socio-economic status. We believe that often, those who discriminate lack understanding of the 'other,' and through storytelling, we unveil the commonalities that bind us. By offering a platform for individuals to share their narratives, we humanize the 'other' and challenge prejudices. Through empathy and understanding, we strive to diminish discrimination and foster a world where acceptance and equality prevail.

I AM THE ONE YOU HATE

I'm the one you hate, but I wish you would understand.

that God made me different, and therefore, I am.

I am precious to my mother; I am dear to my family.

I am precious to all who look up to me.

I'm the first to graduate from the college and continue my graduate studies.

Overcoming challenges and being determined to make it despite the odds.

You and I may stand worlds apart in ideology, but I know there must be a place where we can share our humanity.

I may speak with an accent and not very good English, but I know I have something to contribute to this world.

Look at my story and hear my voice. The sound of joy as we rejoice.

It might be the same as your story, or it may be very different.

It might be contrary to what you are thinking.

As humans, we bleed and cry, and we sing and dance.

All I am asking for is a chance.

I want to live in a place where we see diversity accepted

and a life with the joy of reconciliation among all tongues and nations.
